House Update: The Playroom!

We have now been in our house for 3 months.  It feels like so much longer than that though!  We have done a few changes to the house and the most recent one was Charlotte's playroom. There is a room off of the living room that is the first room you see when you walk into our house.  I'm not sure what to call it.  I normally end up calling it the library because of the shelves that line the walls but really it's our play room.  When we bought the house I wasn't sure what to do with this room.  It has wood paneling that is actually pretty.  (It really is, I promise!) The ceiling is curved and painted white.  Our fireplace is in this room so I guess it could be called our family room.  We didn't have a fireplace in our old house so I am looking forward to using it this winter.  Dan and I have a different style that a lot of people.  We make quick decisions and luckily Dan trusts my ideas even when I second guess myself.

Anyway...I had been on the lookout for a cool couch for this room.  I had tossed around the idea of putting in two club chairs but decided on a couch so that it could hold more people.  We actually use this room and I wanted something comfortable.  I searched for weeks for the perfect piece of furniture.  I found an awesome chesterfield sofa but it was $6,000.  Yeah right, no way would I spend that on a couch for a playroom.

I ended up finding a couch on Craigslist by searching "tufted" every few weeks.  When we got it home I thought "oh my gosh, this thing is hideous, what did we do." It was super heavy and smelled like wet dog.  We got it in the house and I immediately threw a blanket over it because it was such an eyesore.  Even though I bought it with the intention on recovering it I couldn't look at it until I had a plan.  Our friends had left us a small wing back chair that I wanted to recover also.

After fabric shopping several times I finally found the perfect fabric for the couch and chair.  I have recovered furniture before and it's almost more difficult when you have more choices.  Now that I have rambled on about these two pieces of furniture here are the pictures.

I'm really happy with how everything turned out!  It's amazing what a little color can do!

Happy Daddy's Day!

We had an awesome Father's Day yesterday.  We just had a low key day at home and then dinner with family at night.  Happy Father's Day to my Dad and to my wonderful hubby.

6 Months!

Our little lady is 6 months old!  This month has brought on the most changes in Charlotte and has been so fun.  She has her two bottom teeth and she can sit up on her own!  I cannot tell you how amazing it is to sit her on the floor with toys and she actually plays!  I don't feel like she is just laying there all the time now. She has done really well with teething and doesn't seem bothered by her two little teeth.  The only time she has gotten upset was when she bit down on her hand really hard.  Those teeth are sharp!

We go to the doctor Tuesday and I'm anxious to hear how much she has grown in the past two months.  She seems HUGE to me and my arm now gets sore from carrying her around.  She seems bigger than the other babies in her class but no one seems to be surprised.  I mean, look at how huge Dan was when he was born.

We have had several play dates this month too.  Adrienne and I have been getting Owen and Charlotte together to play.  It is nice that they can kind of play together now instead of just lay there and look at each other.  It was really funny because they would play on their own and then look up and realize that there was someone else there and they would reach out and touch each other.  Pretty cute.
We also had Sawyer and Tara over to play when they were in town this weekend.  Sawyer is 15 days older than Charlotte.  She seemed so much older!  She was scooting all over the place.  It was really fun to have our little girls play together.  I call Tara all the time with questions because she and I are normally going through the same thing with our girls because they are so close in age.
This was Tara and I both 8 months pregnant.
Tara and I with Sawyer and Charlotte.  I promise they were smiling all afternoon!
This month we also had our first house visitors.  Dan's parents came to visit from Colorado and spent a week with us.  They couldn't believe how much Charlotte had grown and changed.  Charlotte played hooky from school while they were here and enjoyed the one on one attention she got all week.  She was exhausted when Grandma and Grandpa left!  I used to love it when my grandparents came to visit and I know that Charlotte is always going to love having her special visitors come into town.
Happy 6 months baby girl!  You are going to be a year old before we know it!  We cherish every single day with you and you are truly the joy of our lives!

I have turned into that person...

who only takes pictures of their kid...

She is just so cute I can't help but pull the camera out all the time.
Hamming it up for the camera.
She rolled from her stomach to her back this past week!
We went to the arboretum this weekend
The weekend started out bad when Charlotte still had her ear infection and I came down with strep.  After doctor's visits and meds we both felt A LOT better Sunday!
 Daddy and Charlotte
Charlotte loved putting her feet in the grass
We finally got C in a pool!  She loved it!
Thanks to Barbie and Brian for having us over to swim!
Why can't every weekend be three days?  I guess if they were then I would just want four day weekends.

Big girl!

We finally got Charlotte's high chair put together yesterday!  I think she likes it!  Does she not look like she is 4 years old in this picture?  My baby girl is getting so big!

5 Months!

I say this every month but I can't believe our little Charlotte is 5 months old.  This past month has been so much fun.  Charlotte is now laughing all the time and smiles constantly.  Dan always gets the best giggles from her.
Charlotte is in mostly 6 month clothes and size 2 diapers.  She is so long and lean that she mostly sports dresses with bloomers or leggings.  This past month she started grabbing anything and everything...my hair, my necklaces, my face, the dogs...everything.  A few days ago we started rice cereal.  Our doctor gave us the go ahead at her 4 month appointment but we decided to wait a little bit.  She did really great but was way more interested in her bib than the cereal.
It was so fun to celebrate my first Mother's Day with Charlotte.  We had a big brunch at our house for family and of course I hardly took any pictures.  It was special day and Dan and Charlotte made it so sweet for me.  Last year on Mother's Day we told my mom that we were pregnant so it was really special to have Charlotte here with us this year.

Happy 5 months baby girl.  We are loving every second with you.  Can you just slow down a little bit?  I want you to stay little forever.

Life is sweet

Hello blog world! I've been MIA for a little bit in a funk.  Do you ever just not feel like yourself?  I think that the past 6 months we have been going non stop and now that things are finally slowing down I don't know what to do with myself.  Between a new job, a new baby, and a big move we have had a lot going on.  Three big life events in a short period of time.

I am so thankful for everything that life has brought us the past year and I can't imagine it getting any better than this.  I am going to enjoy that our house is unpacked and we are settled.  I am going to be thankful that I have a career that allows me to work from home and have a flexible schedule.  I am going to cherish the moments that Dan and I spend with Charlotte and I am going to appreciate the slow times.  Life is too short to be in a funk.

A day in the life of a pup

A lot of people have asked me how the pups have adjusted to the move. I'd say they are pretty much loving it so far. This is how I found them today...actually this is what they do everyday...

4 Months!

Today our little C is 4 months old. 4 months is such a short time but it feels like she has been with us forever. She is the happiest little person all the time except when 7 hits every night. She will go from having a huge smile on her face to her bottom lip coming out. It might be the cutest thing I've ever seen. That bottom lip. I've tried to catch a picture of it but can never catch it. Does that make me a mean mom? That when she cries I think it's cute?

Bedtime is 7:30-8 every night and we wake her about 7:30 every morning. Yesterday morning (Saturday) we let her sleep in and she didn't wake up until 10! She must be going through a growth spurt because she has been sleeping a lot the past week. It could be because she started school last Monday. It was another big adjustment for our family but after the first day it started to feel more normal. I accomplished a lot more when she wasn't at the house. I don't think I realized how much of a distraction she was when I was working even though I wasn't taking care of her. It was hard to hear her squealing and talking while I was working. Her school is really nice and the women that work there are great. After she gets home she turns into Miss Chatterbox and tells me all about her day (I'm assuming).

As you know, we have moved. We have been here 2 weeks now and it feels like forever. We absolutely love our home and having tons of trees. Our old house had 4 trees and this house has who knows how many on our 2 acres. There is so much storage here I have empty cabinets everywhere. I'm sure they will fill up one day. This house has so much character and I am looking forward to decorating it and making it ours. Our first project was Charlotte's room. We ended up doing the same paint that we did in her other room at the old house. I'm obsessed with the color gray lately and I think that I will have more than one room that is painted gray. Charlotte's room had 2 layers of wallpaper on the walls. Super cute for a boy but not for a little girl. We had the wallpaper taken down, the walls textured and painted. It turned out great!

I wish I could keep Charlotte this little forever. She is so smiley and giggly and lights up when we talk to her. I want to remember every noise she makes and bottle them up for when she's arguing with me about taking her to the mall or not wanting to do her homework when she's 13. Actually, she probably will never argue with me because she will never want to leave home and always take naps on my shoulder right?

Playing catch up!

I'm way behind in updates lately with all the moving madness that has gone on. Hopefully I will get some updates on here soon. We have already started some little projects on the house and can't wait to see it all come together. Most of the boxes have been unpacked, but we still have a lot to do. This house feels like our home. We have only been here a little over a week and it feels like months. I never want to leave. Anyway...want to see some pics of our growing, bubbly baby? She really smiles ALL the time...until the camera comes out...
